A Southern MD Bowfishing Experience
Bowfishing is by far my favorite means of fishing. It combines shooting and fishing all in one for the ultimate adrenaline rush. Bowfishing is a great way to play an active role in conservation. The species of fish usually targeted by bowfishermen are invasive species such as snakehead (cheapeake channa), various species of cat fish, and carp.
During our annual Maryland bowfishing trip we spend weekend in Indian Head, Maryland and bowfish at night with Southern MD Bowfishing husband and wife team Captains Bill and Loriann.
Southern MD Bowfishing never disappoints, we always have a fantastic time with them. They have great energy and we have lots of laughs. Bowfishing is a beginner friendly activity suitable for most ages. Our captains will work one on one with you if you need help and get you shooting straight.
It’s truly a magical experience, being on the boat while the sun goes down, music is playing, anticipation high, and everyone is at the edge of their metaphorical seat.
Just creeping along the shallows, frogs and crickets chipping while you wait to see that first fish. Then suddenly you’ll be in the thick of the fish and arrows will be flying. You won’t be able to reel that arrow back in fast enough so you can shoot at the next one coming your way. At the end of the night when your arms and fingers are sore, and the fish are lined on the dock. It’s impossible to not smile.
The bond you create on the boat is lasting.

During our down time over the weekend, we will do crafts, play games, hunt for shark’s teeth, process our fish, and eat good food. The memories shared with the friends you make on this adventure will last for a lifetime. I am so grateful for the relationships I’ve gained from leading this trip every year.
Participant testimonial:
I had an awesome time at the SOTO bowfishing event in Maryland earlier this year. Even though mother nature and the waters didn’t cooperate, we all still had a really good and memorable time. We spent the day out on the boat just laughing, trying our best to spot fish, and cheering each other on. It wasn’t really about perfect conditions or even catching fish, all that is a bonus! It was about being together, trying something new and enjoying the experience with other like-minded outdoors women. In the end, the good company made the whole trip memorable and can’t recommend it enough! – Samantha Leech
