Life of A Lady Hunter

Not Your Average Hair Stylist

Most people never bat an eye when I tell them I’m a hairstylist. Its a pretty average job in my eyes, especially living in the suburbs of Milwaukee. I have been working behind the chair for 12 years now, and I really enjoy my job. Making people look and feel good is extremely rewarding. The time I get with each of my clients is 100% all about them, from the service itself to the conversations we have building our trust. When we get to that point in our relationship and the conversation shifts and my clients want to know more about my hobbies and interests, they soon find out that I’m not your average hairstylist!

My love for the outdoors all started at a very young age for me. I spent many weekends going up to my families trailer in Central Wisconsin. My weekends were spent fishing, getting dirty and admiring the beautiful wildlife that would frequently visit the area. It sounds silly, but its a feeling I really can’t describe. I just feel at peace when I’m in the great outdoors.

Hunting started at a later age for me. When I was a teenager, my interest and curiosity in outdoor sports really took over. I finally signed myself up for a hunters safety class at the age of 19. It has been, hands down, one of the best decisions I have ever made. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. My love of the outdoors soon became a passion.

With not coming from a hardcore hunting family, and not to mention being a girl, I was kind of on my own to figure this hunting thing out. I never let either of those two factors discourage me from pursuing this adventure of mine.

I started out turkey hunting. I figured that I would start small, and there was always turkeys around, how hard could it be. Let me just say, its not as easy as it looks! I spent many years scouting and making mistakes before I harvested my first turkey. Trust me, I cried and threatened to quit several times, but my passion and adrenaline kept me coming back for more.

Turkey hunting will probably always be one of my favorites. But in the past 10 years that I’ve been hunting, I’ve had the opportunity to expand my hunting horizons. Since I’ve started, I’ve also been white tail, antelope, bear, upland bird hunting with my dogs, and am extremely fortunate to have gone elk hunting 3 times already! I’m addicted to the outdoors.

My hobby is now my obsession. I have 2 big freezers full of meat (its been over 5 years since I’ve had to purchase any meat at the grocery store) and the memories of hunting will last a lifetime. I hope my story inspires others to go out and try something new. You never know what doors it may open for you. Even though I have a “girly girl” job, I never let it get in the way of where my heart truly is. I can go from my glamo job to cameo in about 2 seconds flat. I wasn’t forced into this lifestyle. I chose this lifestyle, and I can’t imagine my life any other way.
