Our Sisterhood Cow Elk Hunts with Boulder Basin Outfitters

Where Adventure Meets Conservation in Wyoming’s Wild Heart
There’s a stretch of untamed Wyoming that has my heart. The mountains rise fierce and
unyielding, the air smells like pine and freedom, and every October, a group of women saddle up
beside me to ride into something life-changing.
For over a decade, I’ve had the honor of leading women deep into the Washakie Wilderness with
our trusted friends at Boulder Basin Outfitters for the Sisterhood Outdoors Cow Elk Pack Trip.
The goal might be elk—but what we really find out there is so much bigger: confidence, courage,
and a bond that only the backcountry can forge.
These hunts have become part of who we are. They’re not about trophies—they’re about
transformation. Every woman who’s made that ride knows: you come home different. Stronger.
More alive.
Why We Hunt Cow Elk in Wyoming
For us, elk hunting is adventure with a purpose. Cow elk tags are part of Wyoming’s wildlife
management plan—an important tool for keeping elk herds healthy and balanced. By
participating, we’re helping protect the land and the wildlife we love.
For new hunters, this is the perfect introduction to big game hunting. It’s hands-on conservation
and a chance to fill your freezer with clean, sustainable meat. From the first glassing session to
the final pack out, it’s an experience that reminds us why hunters are conservationists.
Into the Washakie Wilderness
Each year starts with that same buzz of excitement—packing gear, checking lists, and counting
down the days until we ride out. But nothing compares to the moment the horses start up the trail
into the Absarokas. The world changes out there. It’s bigger, wilder, and beautifully simple.
The Washakie Wilderness has been my teacher. It’s humbled me, strengthened me, and surrounded me with women who lift each other higher.

I still remember our very first all-women’s cow elk hunt back in 2015—nine determined women full of nerves and fire. We
learned what to pack (and what not to), how to lean on each other, and how powerful we are
when we face the unknown together.
The Wild Always Has a Way of Testing You
We’ve faced blizzards, steep climbs, missed shots, and those moments that make you stop and
just breathe it all in. I’ve watched first-time hunters overcome fear and doubt to harvest their first
elk—and I’ve seen tears, laughter, and hugs that only happen when you share a moment that big.
Every year is different. But one thing never changes: we rise together.
It’s Never Just About the Tag
Success on these trips isn’t measured in meat or antlers—it’s measured in what we discover
about ourselves. It’s in the friendships that last long after the horses are unsaddled and the
campfire smoke fades. It’s in the confidence that carries into every part of life.
Each woman who joins us leaves with something powerful: belief in herself. And that’s what
Sisterhood Outdoors is all about.
